In 2017, Nicolle Uban opened the Brainerd Lakes Area’s first freestanding birth center, Luna Women’s Wellness and Birth Center.  Luna was created to give women the option to birth out of the hospital, in a safe, comfortable environment. Nicolle opened Luna to invest in the community, to serve the next generation of mothers and families, and to create access to quality midwifery care throughout rural Central Minnesota.

In 2021, Nicolle sold the birth center to Deb Sahlstrom of Kairos Midwifery, and it became the second location for A New Story Birth Center. Nicolle continues to provide midwifery care to families in the Lakes Area, conducting patient visits at her office at 803 Kingwood St, Suite 208 in Brainerd, while attending births at A New Story Birth Center (formerly Luna WWBC) at 117 Gillis Ave NE,  Brainerd.  Nicolle accepts a limited number of prenatal patients each month so that she is able to maintain a personal connection while providing individualized care to each client she serves. She also provides well-person care and primary care services. She is here for all families: Black, White, First Nations, Latina, Asian, Christian, Muslim, LGBTQ, teens, and first-time parents. Luna WWB welcomes anyone looking for sensitive and affirming care!
